Kuras pagājušā gadsimta kontrkultūras idejas ir dzīvotspējīgas šodien - Kino Augusts un Kaņepes Kultūras centrs piedāvā vēsturisko kontrkultūru kino un mūzikas programmu, kurā iepazīstina ar hipiju, panku un metālistu subkultūru ietekmi Padomju savienības krišanā un jaunas sabiedriskās identitātes radīšanā.

Filmā iekļauti līdz šim neredzēti arhīvu materiāli, lieliska pagrīdes mūzika no Padomju savienības, psihodēliskas animācijas, izteiksmīga montāža un, protams, vēsturiskie notikumi, kas saistīti ar šo plašo un tomēr līdz galam neiepazīto kustību. Rokmūzika, kuras radīšanā iedvesma smelta no miera un mīlestības kulta, garmataini jaunieši, kuri ilgojas brīvības un rezultātā radījuši paši savu sistēmu striktajā Padomju Savienības režīmā.
Vairākus gadus pēc kustības ziedu laikiem, grupa ekscentrisku hipiju no Igaunijas dodas izbraucienā uz Maskavu, kur ik gadu 1. jūnijā tiek rīkots pasākums, lai pieminētu traģiskos notikumus 1971. gadā, kad VDK arestēja tūkstošiem hipiju.
Pēc filmas - saruna ar filmas režisori un hipiju kustības pētnieci Līvu Zolneroviču (saruna norisināsies angļu valodā).

Where did the counterculture go? Which ideas from previous century countercultures are sustainable in today's world? Kino Augusts and Kaņepes Kultūras centrs offers a program of historical counterculture portrayal in cinema and music, introducing the role of metal, hippies and punks in the dissolution of the Soviet Union and creation of new public identity.

SOVIET HIPPIES reveals unseen archives, great music from the Soviet underground, psychedelic animations, vivid editing and, of course, the historical story of the vast yet unknown movement. Thrilled by rock music, inspired by the cult of peace and love, the young long-haired drop-outs craved for freedom and created their own System in the Soviet Union despite the strict regime. Years later, a group of eccentric hippies from Estonia take a road journey to Moscow where people still gather annually on the 1st of June for celebrations related to the tragic event of 1971, when thousands of hippies were arrested by the KGB.
The film has been circulating film festivals globally for the past two years and has won several awards.
After the screening - a conversation between Terje Toomistu (director of the film) and researcher of hippie movement Līva Zolneroviča. (The conversation will be held in English)
