Mārupe can be called the cradle of the Soviet military heritage. During the Soviet rule, a great number of strategically important military objects were located in the border area or in the middle of nowhere away from the eyes of the people. However, sometimes you could find them right in the “neighbourhood”. A communication bunker, Airport Riga, Village of Skulte – all of these and other objects were established in Mārupe during the Soviet times, bearing in mind the needs of the military. We offer you to take a look at this recent history and go around Mārupe discovering interesting and less popular places, objects and their stories right here on the outskirts of Riga.
The route of the tour is 12 km long (the tour ends in Skulte), and it takes about 5 hours.
