Naval Base of Liepāja has always been a special place. It was a closed territory until 1994. It takes up around 1/3 of the total area of the city of Liepāja. The port was a highly important military asset both during the years of Russian Empire and Soviet Union. It offers several interesting objects including the Northern Forts on the coast of the sea and the only military prison in Europe open for tourists.
