On April 11, the Deniss Paškevičs Power Quartet will perform at the MASA Jazz Club with a concert program based on contemporary post-bop aesthetics.
Deniss Paškevičs is one of the central figures in the Baltic jazz scene — a tenor saxophonist, composer, and producer whose creative language is rooted in the post-Coltrane tradition. In his music, melodic development, harmonic structure, and intense improvisation create a clear and focused jazz architecture.
The quartet’s repertoire is dominated by original compositions whose aesthetics are grounded in the post-bop tradition and contemporary jazz thinking. Influences from saxophonists such as Chris Potter, Donny McCaslin, and Eddie Harris are felt in their sound. The quartet’s latest album, MELODY (Riga Room Records), showcases a structured and more lyrical aesthetic layer. Meanwhile, the Power Quartet concert program delivers a high-energy sound inspired by the New York jazz school.
Line-up:
Deniss Paškevičs — saxophone
Madars Kalniņš — piano
Andris Grunte — double bass
Sigvards Dižais — drums
