The students of Riga Circus School and their teachers have decided to go on a creative camp in nature. And the forest becomes a circus training ground. Acrobats challenge their balance on tree branches, aerial acrobats spin through the treetops, and hand-balancers perform on tree stumps and rocks. An unexpected thunderstorm becomes the impulse for clowning, while stars shimmer in the night sky like juggling balls in a juggler’s hands. Around the campfire, a legend from long ago is revealed in hushed voices — a tale from the untamed days of circus. In the early morning sunlight, a forest clearing transforms into a stage, and the wild circus performance can begin. But perhaps someone is still fast asleep in their tent?
Director Inga Ungure reveals:
“The creation of the Riga Circus School performance ‘Circus Unleashed’ is special because it is being developed in close co-creation with Riga Circus School students — future circus artists — and their teachers, who are practising circus artists themselves. The students’ shared stories and memories from camp experiences helped me create a narrative line that audiences and the artists themselves can relate to. At the same time, these stories became a creative impulse for the teachers while preparing their acts. And just like in nature — diversity and interaction are what you will experience in this performance.”
