AFTER WINTER COMES SPRING
Director: Helke Misselwitz
1987., Germany
116 min
One year before the fall of the Berlin Wall, director Helke Misselwitz travels by train from south to north through the GDR. On her way, she meets a variety of women who talk about their worries and hopes in East Germany in the 1980s.
The black and white documentary film tells of many brave attempts at emancipation, but also of unfulfilled lives. Helke Misselwitz has managed to make an excellent film about the predicament of women in her country. In this way, AFTER WINTER COMES SPRING is one of the few truly feminist films to have come from the GDR.
Event is created with the support of Goethe-Institut Riga.
Tickets: 4 EUR online or at the entrance. Special discount for students and seniors, one ticket price: 3 EUR.
