When Alex's mother discovers her son at a demonstration, she falls into a coma shortly before the wall falls. Months later she wakes up. As her weak heart explicitly needs to be rested, she should not learn of the dramatic innovations of the fall of her beloved GDR, which becomes a tough challenge for Alex. Meanwhile, outside the window the world slowly switches into the new reality.
"Goodbye, Lenin!" portrays the political changes in a heartfelt and humorous manner. It has gained wide international success, also winning the European Film Award for best film in 2003.
Event is created with the support of Goethe-Institut Riga.
