THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT
Dir.: Lars von Trier
Denmark, Sweden, France, Germany
2018 | 155 min.
Drama, horror
This is the house that Jack built.
This is the maiden all forlorn
That lays in the basement full of horror and mourn
That’s under the house that Jack built.
This is the cop all shaven and shorn
That seeks for the maiden all forlorn
That lays in the basement full of horror and mourn
That’s under the house that Jack built.
And so on ad nauseam, for Jack is an incredibly successful villain, a possessed with narcissism serial killer, in grotesque quest for excellence. Nothing will deter him. He is an engineer by vocation, but architecture is his avocation. Jack can not finish building his ideal house beside the lake, because he can not find the inspirer, the muse to be compliant with his fastidious taste. But he does not give up, and goes on seeking: steadily, dispassionately and rigorously. Bloodthirsty Mr Finesse is a collector, considering his every murder to be a work of art, and art, as is known, comes at a price.
Once, in a "gloomy wood" he met a strange man. The stranger stirred his memory and the story begins to spin at breakneck speed.
